After delaying its release because of reported Wi-Fi connectivity issues, Apple is releasing iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users today. Especially excited are iPad users who will finally get the multi-tasking, folders, etc. that have been available to iPhone users for a few months now. Here are some of the highlighted new features:

  • Multitasking on iPad
  • Folders on iPad
  • AirPrint – the ability to print directly from mobile devices to a networked printer
  • AirPlay – stream digital media wirelessly from your mobile device to either an Apple TV or AirPlay-enabled speakers
  • Find My iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch – long available only as a feature to MobileMe subscribers, the great service that lets you pinpoint your device on a map is now free. I’m hoping this means I’ll get a discount on my MobileMe subscription now…
  • Game Center
  • Unified Inbox in Mail app
  • Full text search in Safari
  • Notes with fonts
  • Reply to calendar invitations
  • Keyboard and dictionary enhancements
  • Accessibility enhancements
  • Enhanced enterprise support for better security and device management for businesses
  • Messaging with text tones

All you need to do to take advantage of the update is plug your iOS device into computer and click the Check for Update button on the iTunes summary screen for your device. The upgrade is free and is expected to be pushed out at 10:00 a.m. PST today, November 22nd.
