Apple's iOS 4.1 update is available now for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

As promised at last week’s Apple Special Event, the iOS 4.1 update for iPhone and iPod Touch was just made available for download. Just plug your device into your computer and hit the “Check For Update” button on the Summary screen for your device.

The update is free and adds a bunch of great fixes and additions. Included are:

  • New Game Center functionality – a social gaming community
  • Ability to take HDR photos on iPhone 4
  • Ability to upload HD video to YouTube and MobileMe
  • iTunes TV show rentals
  • Ability to start FaceTime calls directly from the Favorites screen

  • Corrects proximity sensor issue on iPhone 4
  • Improves performance of iPhone 3G

Leave a comment and let me know how your upgrade goes. The update is available for most iPhones and all but the first generation of iPod Touch. An update for the iPad operating system is expected sometime in November.
